Do You know me?

One Sunday when I was driving to church, it dawned on me to ask if You really know me...

On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

(Matthew 7:22-23)

The abovementioned scripture is a harsh reality that many will face on that Day. Lord, I don't want to be busy working for You yet not being known by You. That would be the worst thing ever. Just imagine, staying up late preparing sermons, traveling across the world to preach the Gospel, risking your life to reach those in remote areas and yet, not even being known by the One you're doing it for?

Ouch.

I think sometimes it's easy to get into the performance trap. We get into the rat race of ministry and forget that the most important thing is knowing the One that was sent.

Prayer: Lord, help us to constantly take an assessment of our lives and the things we're doing. May we never get caught up doing, that we forget being (in You). Help us to not assume You know us because of the work we're doing. May our confidence be in You alone. May knowing You be our greatest pursuit. In Jesus' name, amen.
