Never!
While reading the scriptures, we look at what our brothers and sisters in the faith have done and scoff at them. "I will NEVER be like Peter! How could he deny Jesus? I will NEVER be like Jonah! How could he disobey God and go the opposite direction when he was told to deliver a message to the people of Nineveh? I will NEVER be like David! Why was it so hard for him to commit to one woman?"
We speak so presumptively as though we are not susceptible to the same mistakes...
Similar to military personnel, we legit make a pledge. While they pledge to defend their country with their lives, we pledge to never be like sister so and so or brother so and so. The reality is that none of us can boldly say that until we're faced with the same circumstance. The scripture tells us that these examples we have in scripture are for our admonition--to warn us from making the same mistake.
"Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall."
1 Corinthians 10:11-12
Now, there is a level of confidence you can have that would inspire you to make such statements, but it HAS TO BE rooted in the Lord or it will become pride. Help us, Jesus.
